Football Report Season 1965-66
The start of the Football season 1965 also saw the beginning of Saturday morning fixtures at the school. The main idea behind this was the improvement of the fixture list and from the results achieved and the new fixtures gained, I feel that it was a move in the right direction. It was possible to keep some of our old fixtures e.g. Finchley Grammar, Cardinal Vaughan and the London Oratory and added to our new list, Preston Manor, Wembley County, Albany, Bishopshalt and Hendon County.
Results as listed speak for themselves and it is pleasing to note that over 50% of the total games played resulted in victory. The 1st XI results appeared regularly in the National Press, while most Saturdays five teams representing the school, were playing inter-school fixtures.
In Local schools competitions the school reached three Finals viz., U'12s; U'13s and under U'15s, but were successful only in the latter. For the record the U'15 team completed a unique sequence of victories, having won their respective finals in every age group. As far as I am aware this has never happened in the school annals of football and we all congratulate the whole team on their memorable achievement.
The Annual fixture with the Old Salvatorians XI resulted this year in a defeat for the school by three goals to nil, while in the Staff v School match the young 'uns proved too fast and slippery for the older 'uns and the school had a deserved victory of 6 goals to nil.
All in all a successful season with the prospect of better things to come. A final and sincere word of thanks to those members of Staff who gave up their Saturday mornings to help with games - without them this report could not have read as it does.
