First XI Report

Much of the batting again depended on Dury - 719 runs, average 51.4, well supported by Murray -
211 runs - and Tobin - 204 runs. Both of the latter batsmen scored 50's and Dury had one 100 and
several 50's. Ferry headed the bowling averages, 35 wickets, average 8.9, but promise was shown
by slow bowler Redican. The game against Pinner was the most exciting game of the season. After
losing three wickets cheaply the School declared at 133 with Dury not out at 104 and Byrne not
out 1. These two batsmen shared a record stand of 86. With Pinner at 128 for 7, however, it
looked as though we would lose. The last wicket was taken with one ball left and with Pinner
132. The best game of the season was that of the School V Headmaster's XI. The School were out
for 143 with Tobin at 53; at the close the Headmaster's XI were 138 for 7. Poor catching by the
School allowed the Headmaster's XI to score so many runs, but the game was enjoyed by all who
played. Fielding throughout the season was good but vital catches were not always held.
