Cross Country 1966-67

It is unfortunate, from the running point of view, that the School is situated in such a built-up area. There is little fun in having to run for two miles along the roads, where apart from the effort needed to keep going, one must also keep a wary eye out for passing traffic. But, if the joys of cross country are not to disappear all together, then roads it must be for the time being. Of course not everyone is going to like cross-country running, if for no other reason than the fact that boys, like all the human race, comes in all shapes and sizes. Thus, some find it easy, whilst others find it difficult, but if all have a go, then it can be both enjoyable and beneficial to general health and development.

The Inter-House Competition was held at the end of the Autumn Term, and the Individual Competition at the end of the Spring Term. The result of the House Competition was:

In the Harrow District Championships the School Teams finished 1st in both Junior and Intermediate Races, and 3rd in the Senior, scoring 18 pts in the Junior, 6l pts in the Intermediate, and 65 in the Senior. As a result of these races, Borgeat, Feerick, Fleet R.H., and Pitt (Juniors); Whelan and Woolford (Intermediate) and Mangan (Senior) were chosen to represent Harrow in the County Championships.

In the Grammar Schools Championships, the Juniors finished 4th, our best ever, and the Seniors 19th.

A fair season taking results as a whole, with a number of good runners available for the future. Results and performances should improve.
