Swimming Gala

Owing to the fact that the Highgrove Baths were closed during May, the Annual Swimming Gala could not be held this year until Saturday, 17th June. On this evening, a large number of parents and boys turned up to enjoy the entertainment provided and at the close the records show that BECKET retained the Christina Marcantonio Swimming Cup with a total of 149 points. Gabriel were second with 137 points, Campion third with 117 points and Francis fourth with 94 points.

The fun of the Gala evening must not be allowed to obscure the fact that swimming as an activity goes on throughout the year. It is now firmly established in the sports programme, and many boys learn to swim through the opportunity offered them, in most cases at least once every three weeks. It is the aim to ensure that every boy can swim by the time he leaves school and to any boy who really wants to achieve this there will be given every encouragement and help.

Due to Mr. Martin's leave of absence for the year, it was not easy to arrange for the A.S.A. awards to take place, but just before the end of the Summer term the following boys earned their Bronze and Silver Awards:

M. Rowan; J. McLoughlan; K. Borgeat; F. McNeillis; K. Hearns;
J. Kane; S. Waldron; S. Bailey; B. Hewitt.
