Badminton

The season started quite early in the Autumn term with a School Badminton Tournament for both
Senior and Junior age groups in both Doubles and Singles. In the Junior Tournament the Singles
was won by Jeremy Davis who convincingly beat Andrew Baxter in the Final, 2 sets to 0, with
Shaun Gray beating Paul Staines for 3rd place. In the doubles, Davis, partnered by Derek Vaz
beat Gray and Baxter 2 - 1. 3rd place went to Richard Ennis and Martin Looney. |

In the Senior
section, Alan Crowther kept his unbeaten record with a Finals victory over Paul Latimer, and
Paul Hunter took 3rd place with a surprise win over Andrew Newbert, 2 - 1.
This season we entered an "A" and "B" team in the Middlesex League. The "A" team had an
excellent run, winning all matches, but had to withdraw from the Divisional Finals because some
of the team were away with the school Ski Trip. The "B" side had mixed fortunes, but still
managed some good wins - particularly good since most teams in the League are 5th year players,
and our "B" side comes from our 4th year. In addition to the League programme, we had several
"friendly" matches, one of the most enjoyable being that against a Staff team. We now look
forward to a successful season in 1981 when we should be able to turn out two strong teams.
